Heather third in heat

August 29th, 2005 | by aobaoill |

Some rather annoying, as you might imagine, problems with internet access meant I didn’t actually see the race live, and have only now caught up with the results.
Heather and Sinead came third in their heat, meaning they now progress to the repechage tomorrow (Wednesday). They were just over two seconds behind Germany, and 0.7 seconds behind the USA. Their time makes them the fastest boat entering the repechage, though as I’ve said earlier that’s not always the most useful of metrics, and the sixth fastest time in the heats.
[Update: I mis-read the programme. The first three made it through to the Semi-final, so Heather isn’t racing today (Wednesday).]
In other Irish news the men’s lightweight four won their heat, progressing directly to the semi-final. Although the four are the only Irish crew to by-pass the repechage, the performances in the heats augur well for later stages. As the threatened typhoon has caused all the repechages to be raced over a single day, all will be revealed tomorrow!
