High-school station losing license?

More bad news for high-school radio, this time from Maynard, Massachusetts, where WAVM looks set to lose its frequency assignment after a challenge by a Christian broadcasting network. WAVM had undertaken the process of converting from a 10 watt to a 250 watt license – in order to go from secondary to primary status on the frequency and secure against future challenges. Unfortunately, it appears that the conversion process includes a step that lets other broadcasters challenge for use of the frequency – I’m unsure if it’s because the expanded 250W coverage would impinge on one of their existing stations – and in this case the FCC has come out against the student station.
