Free phone calls endangering morals in Bangladesh?

January 16th, 2006 | by aobaoill |

From InterWorldRadio:

Mobile phone operators in Bangladesh have been ordered to stop offering free late-night telephone calls in response to requests to protect the moral values of young people. The move followed complaints by parents to the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission who said their childrenÂ’s behaviour had changed as a result of the conversations. Two of Bangladesh’s five mobile phone firms, GrameenPhone and CityCell, offered the free calls between midnight and 6am to attract the youth market. An official from the telecoms regulator said the move was aimed at preventing romantic contact between young people.
