Blair government to fight corruption – abroad

July 14th, 2006 | by aobaoill |

From today’s Interworld Radio:

The UK plans to launch a fund worth £100 million pounds to fight corruption in developing countries. The plans are in a UK government White Paper, which follows on from pledges made at last year’s G8 summit to alleviate poverty in Africa and developing countries. International Development Secretary Hilary Benn acknowledged that some progress has been made towards making poverty history, but said it was impossible to eliminate it without better governance and accountability in developing countries.

The timing seems somewhat unfortunate considering the troubles facing the Blair government at home.
