Panels as polemical performance

October 17th, 2006 | by aobaoill |

So in my most recent post I talked up the performative potential of rally speeches, as opposed to academic performances. Were it not for the fact that he published his comments a day previous to myself, one might see Patrick’s comments at Prisonship as a response to mine:

i want to live up to the performative aspects of a panel, treating the event more like a rock show (or union speech) than a recitation. i have two or three polemical points to make about false binaries – labor movements/social movements, class politics/’identity’ politics – that i’m going to narrate in caribbean and oregonian terms.

I’m wondering if Rethinking Marxism, the conference in question, lends itself to such approaches somewhat better than NCA?
