Arsonists strike community station in Australia

November 27th, 2006 | by aobaoill |

Bad news for a community station in Australia – 4TTT – that had its outside broadcast studio (a converted caravan) destroyed by arsonists over the weekend.

Mr Mintern said the station was still trying to count up the financial cost of the fire.
He said the van and the equipment had originally been paid for by
fundraising.
“Volunteers helped contribute to put it together and business helped to build it and fit it out inside.”
Ironically the station had recently decided to move the van from the site to free up more car spaces.
“We had made arrangements this week to move it out to a place to have it stored,” he said.
Mr Mintern said the destruction of the van meant that a number of community events booked for the Christmas period would have to be cancelled.
