RTÉ continues DRM tests on longwave
September 10th, 2007 | by aobaoill |Interesting news from Enda O’Kane, letting me know of some new DRM tests being conducted by RTE on the 252kHz wavelength:
This broadcast will also be available at the IFA Show Amsterdam and is part of a 24hr trial. RTE has carried out digital trials over the past month on Longwave 252 kHz.These trials after midnight have tested various digital modes at times dividing the bitstream into as many as four individual programmes.Text also carried news items using the Journaline system
You can see what that text looks like here – it’s essentially an RSS feed of news headlines, probably from the RTÉ website. A station in southern Germany is also starting broadcasts in DRM while RTÉ has seemingly used shortwave – in both analogue (AM) and digital (DRM) modes – to broadcast its live coverage of the All-Ireland Hurling Final.

Just to avoid confusion, it might be best never to call Digital Radio Mondiale by its acronym.
Unfortunately Digital Rights Management will still be knocking about for a few more years.
