Ronnie Drew passes

So that line’s from Patrick Kavanagh, but it came to mind on hearing of the passing of Ronnie Drew today. The music of Ronnie and the Dubliners has been a constant in my music-focused radio shows, so it’s poignant to hear of the passing of another artist. For those in the Chambana area, I expect to include a tribute in my next appearance on Celtic Music Go Braugh Go Braugh, on 31st August.

I only heard of Ronnie Drew’s passing this evening and was saying to my wife how Ronnie would always remind me of the lines, “On Pembroke Road look out for my ghost, dishevelled with shoes untied, Playing through the railings with little children, whose children have long since died”
I certainly will look out for you, Ronnie, the next time I am in Dublin and I hope that in the future I, also, could play through the railings. Rest In Peace.

Dont know if that was a Patrick Kavanagh line Michael but it certainly makes you think. Ronnie was true to himself and that gained him respect all round.
