Features I want to see in Safari

I’m using the new Beta 2 version of Safari, and am happy to be able to use tabs again. But there’s still a few features, and improvements, I’d like to see introduced:

  • As has been mentioned in a comment at Surfin’ Safari the Movable Type bookmarklet doesn’t work in Safari because it consists only of Javascript (with no html).
  • Any chance of integrating an RSS reader into the browser? Switching between NetNewsWire Lite and Safari is becoming tiring. It’d be great to be able to open links in news feeds as new tabs.
  • Being able to block pop-ups is somewhat useful (though problematic given the legitimate uses being found for pop-ups by some sites) but it wouldreally be great if I could block images from specific sites without recourse to separate software.
  • On a similar note, how about a better cookie manager that lets me have a ‘blacklist’ of cookies I don’t accept (or alternately a list of sites from which I do accept cookies).
  • Another Movable Type difficulty: in IE I have an ‘insert url here’ button that makes adding links easier but nary a sign of it in Safari. Any word of it’s where abouts?
  • I like the bookmarks interface, but it would be nice to be able to add some extra information to a bookmark – a description, or some notes, or a ‘date added’ field. I’ve just ported my bookmarks from b. (by hand as something got mixed up when I upgraded to the new version, and the export function wasn’t working) and miss the extra ‘description’ field.
  • Which reminds me – any chance of an ‘export’ utility for the bookmarks, or even better interoperability with other browsers. It’s one thing importing Mozilla bookmarks on installation: what about ongoing checks of new stuff to pull from other browsers.
  • And finally, something a little different: there’s no equivalent of Mozilla’s ‘Work Offline’ feature. This diminishes the value of the cache. I’d like to suggest more than just mimicking Mozilla, however. How about a way to save a copy of a file when adding a bookmark – so that if the online version disappears, you can still use the document later. Of course you wouldn’t want/need this for many bookmarks – such as those you plan on accessing regularly, or where it’s the service at the far end (search engines, shopping sites) that is of interest. But when it’s a particular news article or document it would be great to be able to save copy that is accessible from your bookmarks, rather than having the ‘save as’ function operate in total separation from the bookmarks. What odds?
