Definition follow-up

Zephoria has picked up on my response to Jill Walker’s definition of the weblog. She claims that I argue “that blogs always exist in a community context”. That’s not strictly true – I believe that there are several separate concepts that are conflated or confused in discussion of ‘blogs.’
One of these concepts is the idea of linked discussions – the so-called blogosphere, and it is fair to characterise this as ‘a community context’. However when people talk of blogs being embraced by advertisers or consultants they are usually talking about the format (date stamped posts) or the technology (content management) rather than this social/personal aspect. Obviously we need to be able to discuss these various concepts without confusion, so more specific terminology may be required.
