Privacy International and freedominfo.org have released a global survey of freedom of information legislation, giving detailed descriptions of the over 50 countries which currently have legislation. Among the points made:

Excessive fees are often charged in some countries to prevent requests. In Ireland, the law was amended in 2003 to impose high fees for those appealing decisions.

Apart from the recent amendment Ireland’s system gets quite positive comments – regarding, for example, the strength of the Commissioner’s role.
