Diebold memos and the problems with electronic voting

November 5th, 2003 | by aobaoill |

There’s increasing coverage of the Diebold memos, which reveal just what a flawed concept electronic voting is. At this stage I think everyone with an interest has been able to get hold of a copy (no, I’m not going to link to my offshore copy:-), so there’s no way to ‘put the genie back in the bottle’ for Diebold. Perhaps we should thank them for bringing increasing attention attention to the major problems electronic voting poses for our democracies.
The Irish Labour Party has just released a report on the flaws in the electronic voting system being introduced in Ireland, which the minister responsible has rejected out of hand as being ‘irresponsible.’ On the contrary, those highlighting the flaws of a technophilic, naive, rush to implement ‘cutting edge technology’ for use in one of the basic processes in society are the ones being irresponsible.
