Reforming the Media in Madison

November 11th, 2003 | by aobaoill |

The alternative press is swimming in coverage of The National Conference on Media Reform, organised by Free Press, but there is little in the mainstream press – though I believe the Chicago Tribune did have an article. An overview of the rationale behind the conference is provided in an article in the Nation by Free Press founders Bob McChesney and John Nichols.
Billy BraggThe conference was a fascinating mix of talk and music, with performances by Billy Bragg, Tom Morello and others. And when I say ‘mix’ I mean it – Friday night in particular had music sandwiched between speeches by Naomi Klein, John Sweeney – President of the AFL-CIO – and others. While Ralph Nader’s talk had to be rescheduled to an ungodly 8am start, due to his plane being delayed, I did get to see Jesse Jackson and Al Franken give wonderful talks. Expect more updates on the various sessions shortly.
