Gov’t dismantles independent appointments system

There’s some very strange stuff hidden in the Irish government’s proposals for changes to the public service appointments process. They’ve included changes that would allow them to appoint their special advisers to permanent, pensionable positions, bypassing the usual ‘neutral’ process.
The change was brought to light by Joan Burton of the Labour Party. It seems so brazen a move it is almost surprising that they will get away with it….
