Sometimes a lie is something you can touch.

You expect a little bending of the truth from spindoctors, but current US statements are just plain wrong. Talking about the missiles currently being destroyed, Ari Fleischer claims that Saddam claimed they didn’t exist, and that this shows he is lying. However, the Iraqis declared these weapons several years ago, and showed the test records to the inspectors.
The dispute was whether the tests showed that the range of the rockets was beyond that allowed. The rockets had gone as far as 180km in tests. The Iraqis claimed that this was because they were lighter without control mechanisms, and that the actual range (in battle) would be below the 150km permitted. Technical argument.
Also interesting to see the Beeb mentioning that the no-fly zones have never been authorised by the UN – contrary to all the reports of ‘UN no-fly zones’ that you keep seeing. Not new news, I know, but the specificity is an interesting move.
Oh, yeah: and it looks like the US plan to use chemical weapons in Iraq. According to the story, British policy bans military involvement in conflicts where they are used, so Blair may face real political trouble, or have to pull out of the ‘alliance.
Of course, they could just be mendacious and cover it all up. Kinda like how we think they haven’t attacked Iraq yet….
