Shame! Shame! Shame! Irish government in xenophobic opportunism

The Irish government has announced a shameful proposal to withhold citizenship from children born in Ireland whose parents are not legally resident in the country. Pat Rabitte of the Labour Party has, rightly, criticised the proposal, though in terms far less strident than I would think appropriate. The fact that the government may run the referendum in tandem with the local and European elections adds to the controversy.
