Tortured logic

What’s the difference between the United States and Iraq under Hussein? According to George Bush, it’s that the US investigates its trained torturers:

“We’re an open society. We’re a society that is going to investigate, fully investigate, in this case, what took place in that prison,” Bush said. “That stands in stark contrast to life under Saddam Hussein. His trained torturers were never brought to justice under his regime. There were no investigations about mistreatment of people.”

Other gems from Bush’s interviews on Arabic TV include this gob-smacker:

“I think people in the Middle East who want to dislike America will use this as an excuse to remind people about their dislike.” Bush told the Al-Arabiya network. “I think the average citizen will say, ‘This isn’t the country I’ve been told about.'”

So torture and murder by US employees is turned around to attack those who have a poor impression of the US? Wow.
