Angola

March 7th, 2003 | by aobaoill |

Angola’s representative is speaking now. Still at the intro stage, so difficult to read. Talking about prior breaches of resolutions by Iraq. Inspectors have talked about new cooperation, which Angola welcomes. “However, Iraq’s governments cooperation remains relatively insufficiant…. [should retain consensus, and spare Iraqi people].” Calls on Iraqi govt to do better. Disarming Iraq remains key goal of international community. Discussion should be interpreted by Iraq not as unwillingness to act, but considering how best to act. Regional and other organisations as well as international public opinion have been calling for peaceful solution. Non-aligned movement….
Looks like they’re going against the US motion, but want it to be seen as an active move, not as a sign of being unwilling to act if necessary.
Next will be Cameroon. For those counting, only one more country needs to come out against war in order for the motion to fail (if my interpretations are correct).
