J-Lab on participatory media

July 29th, 2004 | by aobaoill |

The July update from the Institute for Interactive Journalism has just reached me, and has some interesting items on participatory media. First, what they refer to as ‘hyperlocal citizens’ media initiatives’ are lauded as ‘introducing new forms of participatory journalism’ with links to various examples being provided, such as GothamGazette.com’s Community Gazettes and Medill School of Journalism’s Skokie, IL site.
They also draw attention to J-Lab’s forthcoming presentations at AEJMC (‘Exploring the fusion power of public and participatory journalism’) and UNITY (‘Getting the news: new forms of interactive and participatory journalism’), and to a research project they are about to undertake into ‘micro-local citizen media’ – with contact details for such projects being solicited (let me know if you want the contact address for this).
