Being the Media – a call for papers

September 13th, 2004 | by aobaoill |

2005 marks the tenth anniversary of licensed Irish community radio, and I’ve launched the Being the Media project to mark the occasion. This will be an online collection of pieces – academic articles, personal reminiscences, manifestoes and reflections – centred on the theme of Irish participatory media.
Not all pieces need focus exclusively on, or even overtly refer to, Irish media, but it is hoped that all pieces will help to explain and contextualise the situation of Irish participatory media. So pieces that take a transnational or theoretical approach, or which place Irish events within an international context, will be welcome.
The response so far has been good, with several pieces provided or promised. If you think you would like to contribute please let me know. The deadline for proposals (an abstract will suffice) is February, with the collection being published next September. [Read the full Call for Papers here.]
Also, I’m going to need reviewers to assist with the selection and editing process. If this is something in which you might be interested, I’d be interested in hearing from you!
