Confusion surrounds seizure of Indymedia servers

October 26th, 2004 | by aobaoill |

Wow. It appears that no-one is claiming responsibility for the seizure of the Indymedia servers. The UK authorities weren’t involved (even though the seizure took place on British soil, and their involvement would presumably be required). The FBI claim that they know nothing about it – though they had earlier admitted to making a request (somehow misunderstood by Rackspace as a demand on foot of a court order) for the servers. And then there’s both the Italian and Swiss authorities. Whatever the truth is – and conspiracy theorists must be feeling vindicated these days, after years in the wilderness – it’s definitely a mess!
