Completism is in!

There’s been lots of attention paid to the iPod photo (over-hyped, not what I want) and to the U2-themed iPod (generally negative) but I haven’t seen anyone comment on the announcement that the iTunes music store will soon sell the entire U2 back-catalogue as a bundle. Some time ago I suggested that the future for music sales would be selling large compilations to people – multiple GB of music, sold as a block. I’d envisaged this being used to sell the catalogues of various labels – you get the cool bands, but also the has-beens – but also this scenario, where completism regarding a single band is rewarded. They laughed, they said no one would go for it. Let’s see…..
