Responding to the Bush victory

I dislike this man. The Irish Taoiseach (prime minister), Bertie Ahern, has said a Kerry presidency would have been bad for Ireland (due to Kerry’s commitment to use tax policy to encourage US companies to invest in the US). Possibly true, but there was no need to make the comment at this stage (it smacked of licking questionable parts of Bush’s anatomy) and it ignored the greater questions about the dangers for the world of another four years of Bush. Of course Ahern is the man who claimed to be opposing war in Iraq, while choosing to provide landing facilities that made it possible. I’d much prefer a government that issued a statement like this from China or that from Kenyan vice-President. The Kenyan statement shows that it’s not just up-and-coming economic powerhouses who can speak truth to power, and one need not pander to the US government in the same way the DLC panders to the fictional American center.
