New Adventures #5

December 23rd, 2004 | by aobaoill |

The BCI has just announced the fifth New Adventures in Broadcasting scheme. Some of my U.S. based readers (or indeed others) may find it interesting that the regulatory body that licenses broadcasters should run a scheme aimed at subventing quality programmes on stations. In a way this is like having the FCC and the CPB wrapped up in one.
In the upcoming scheme broadcasters can get support for once-off programmes, upgrades to programming capability, the introduction of new ongoing programming, or for Irish language content. In a new development there will be a second phase where stations who have been previously been awarded funding in the first phase will take part in a competition. An interesting development, and one that changes the form of the scheme substantially I would think.
