New site layout and design

I’ve launched the new version of the site, and hope it meets with approval (if there are obvious flaws be sure to let me know). Apart from the new colour scheme – which reflects calls for a cleaner, more minimalist, approach – I’ve trimmed the site a little, removing some pages that listed particular categories, and also added some new functionality to the individual-post pages.
Check it out – I’m quite proud of the concept, though there’s still some actual content to be added. In essence I’ve added some MT plugins that allow content targetted at particular categories. I’d wanted to introduce some more specific categories for some time, but the previous structure made that awkward. Now I’m adding categories for areas like radio, income and poverty, international affairs. Then for each of these I (will) have a short piece outlining my overall focus on the area, highlighting particularly significant pieces, linking to external sources, and listing some other posts in that category.
All in all it’s a fairly modest development but I hope it will help with the continued development of the site. I’ll continue, at a slower pace, to add the category-specific content and to migrate older posts to the new categories. I’m also considering reopening comments, if I can figure how to implement the new Google tag.
