A Monument to Johnny Massacre?
February 24th, 2005 | by aobaoill |Long time funferal readers will remember my post about the death of the Galway street entertainer Johnny Massacre. Now there are proposals (from Green Party councillor Niall Ó Brolcháin) to erect a monument in his memory at the spot he made his own. Street entertainment – buskers and others – are central to the vitality and spirit of Galway city centre so such a monument, particularly for Massacre, who regularly attracted large crowds, would be quite fitting.

I would love to see a tribute to Johnny.
I met Johnny several times over several years, he used to hang around with some bands I knew, The Skinflints and Flannel.
I was only discussing him the other week with a Skinflint who had come back from Australia and when another friend told of his passing it saddened me.
He was a lovely guy.

I agree…beautiful guy. He helped me out in my time of need not having ever met me before. A gem of a lad.

Definitely, there should be a monument. John was one in a million. He was a good friend. I lived with him in Dublin in the early days, when he was trying to get into music management etc. The mention of the Skinflints brings me back! John ran a short lived alternative music venue in Dublin called Dionysus, something he had done to great success in Longford for a while. I did sound for the Dublin version. Funny days! John had a heart of gold and boundless enthusiasm. Anyhow.. Is there a petition or anything yet? Im sure we could get lots of signatures. Anyone who knew John thought the world of him
