Innovative uses of spectrum

Courtesy of Prometheus’s Stubblefield list I encountered this fascinating example of “the immense practical use of the electromagnetic spectrum, using low end technology to leverage an enormous benefit.” In short outdoor an example of an outdoor concert in India that used radio transmitters and small speakers placed throughout the audience instead of the traditional bank of large speakers. The impetus was provided by environmental regulations banning the use of large speakers near protected structures, but this sounds like a model that would be useful in many situations.
