Radio Translator scandal

March 10th, 2005 | by aobaoill |

The scandal surrounding FM translator licenses is now receiving mainstream coverage but much of the heavy lifting has been done by people like my colleagues John Anderson at DIYMedia and Paul Riismandel at Media Geek. Building on statistics gathered by REC Networks they’ve been investigating the complex shell game being undertaken by companies/religious groups which have created an unethical and possibly illegal market in the licenses. Now Prometheus, Free Press and others have weighed in with a petition to the FCC calling for them [DOC format] to “impose an immediate national freeze on the authorization of new FM translator stations.”
