Stoning in Afghanistan

A woman has been stoned to death in Afghanistan for allegedly committing adultery. She was sentenced to death by a local religious scholar. However Afghan law stipulates that such cases should be heard in local courts. The wife had asked for a separation on the grounds that her husband could not support her, however he claimed she was having an affair. This is reported to be the second time a woman has been stoned to death since the Taleban was ousted in 2001. Both were killed in the northeastern province of Badakhshan.
