Columbia university plans blacklisting

April 27th, 2005 | by aobaoill |

The Nation has just published a leaked memo by Columbia Provost Alan Brinkley from last February in which he proposes various sanctions that should be used against Graduate Employees if they go on strike, as they now have. The sanction would include forcing them to teach an extra semester (without extra remuneration) if they are still within the five years of the basic package offered to Columbia Grad Employees, something a friend compared to indentured servitude when I described it to her, and blacklisting them from future employment in the University.
