Irish gov’t to end referendums on European treaties

What do you do when you worry that the people will reject deals done by political elites? You propose removing the ability of the people to reject those deals.
Ireland has had quite a number of EU-related referendums over the years, with the people voting against the Nice Treaty before they voted for it (seriously!). I can’t imagine this proposal being approved in a referendum – the usual argument of “it’s only a technical change, and it’s necessary to play nice with Europe” can’t apply – but you never know. I’m worried that the government think it’s worth floating….
