Labour lose safe seat – over gender quotas

Watching the results as they happen can reveal the most interesting bits of information. Labour has lost the ‘safest seat in Wales’ to an independent candidate. Why? Well seemingly Peter Law, the new MP, was a member of the Labour Party but resigned in order to run against the Labour candidate in protest at the party policy of ‘women-only’ shortlists in the candidate-selection process. The policy was intended to improve the representation of women in Westminster.
