New JNLR results for Irish radio

May 10th, 2005 | by aobaoill |

The latest JNLR figures are out and show continued slight gains for commercial stations against RTÉ:

The listenership figure for any regional/local station was 55% (-1). Listened yesterday figures for RTÉ Radio 1 remained unchanged at 26% while RTÉ 2FM recorded a figure of 22% (-2). Today FM’s listened yesterday figure increased to 15% (+2), with RTÉ Lyric FM achieving a figure of 3% (same).

Of course only RTÉ and the commercial stations are included, so there’s no information on community stations. National surveys would give poor results for the small areas served by community stations in any event. Indeed the current results don’t have enough data points to give specific results for most local stations.
Of those local stations for whom data is available, Galway Bay (-2 to 50%), WLR FM (-7 to 47%) and 98FM in Dublin (-3 to 17%) were all down as were both CORK 96FM/County Sound and Red FM in Cork. Only Midlands 103 (+8 to 47%) and BEAT 102-103 FM – the new regional station in the South-East – went up, with several others staying static.
