O’Dea is war profiteer

May 17th, 2005 | by aobaoill |

Those who don’t obsessively check funferal stories for comments may have missed a comment on my post about the cost of military flyovers that pointed to this Indymedia article. It reports revelations in Village magazine about some interesting share dealings:

According to the current issue of Village Magazine (p17) our Minister for Defence, Willie O’Dea bought shares in an oil company operating in Iraq in 2003, and sold them ‘very recently’

Further, according to Indymedia:

Shortly before the attack, invasion and occupation of Iraq, Willie O’Dea (then a junior minister for justice) appeared on RTE to defend the use of Shannon Airport by the US military. (RTE’s Questions and Answers 27th January 2003)

So when O’Dea said the war was strategic and about oil he knew what he was talking about. O’Dea is, like An Taoiseach, a bit of a Teflon politician so I can’t imagine this tripping him up, but we can hope.
