Seattle radio in trouble

May 23rd, 2005 | by aobaoill |

Jonathan Lawson of Reclaim the Media points to the danger being faced by Seattle high-school station KNHC. Unlike previous cases I’ve covered previously this time the danger is from the school district itself which faces a large budget shortfall and is considering selling the station. In a sign of the times it is thought that this could raise $8 million – Seattle is of course a crowded market. I’ve followed Lawson’s lead in contacting the school board and would urge others to join me in this.
Seattle is unusual in having not one but two high-school stations, but the other station, KMIH, is also in serious trouble as I’ve reported previously having been ordered off the air by the FCC because an Oregon station, KCMQ, wants to expand into the Seattle market and its license takes precedence over the KMIH educational-class license.
